Questions and answers

Everything we can say for certain before launch. If something isn't here, write to hello@sterlingtutors.ae.

Pricing

How much do lessons cost?

Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, shown on their profile before you book.

How do we pay?

You can pay by card, Google Pay or Apple Pay.

Vetting

How are tutors vetted?

Five checks before a first lesson: identity, an Enhanced DBS check for working with children, qualifications verified at source, two professional references, and a live interview with our team. The record of these checks sits on every tutor profile.

What is an Enhanced DBS check?

The highest level of criminal-record check issued by the UK Disclosure and Barring Service, required for adults working with children in UK schools. We accept certificates on the DBS Update Service and re-check them regularly.

Safeguarding

How do you keep my child safe online?

Lessons run in our own online classroom, not on personal video accounts. Every message between tutor and student is visible to the parent, and tutors agree not to contact students off the platform.

Can I see what happens in lessons?

Yes. After each lesson the tutor writes notes you can read, and you can see all messages at any time. Lesson recordings are a feature we are considering for launch.

Online lessons

What does a lesson look like?

Live, one-to-one, in an online classroom with video, a shared whiteboard and the ability to upload past papers and mark schemes. Lessons are usually 60 minutes.

What do we need at home?

A laptop or tablet with a camera, a steady internet connection and a quiet place to work. A tablet with a stylus helps for Maths and the sciences but is not required.

Launch

When do you launch?

We’ll let you know as soon as we launch. Join the waitlist to get early access.

What happens after I join the waitlist?

We keep your details safely until launch. Before launch we write to you by email with access to vetted tutors in your child’s subjects, and you can book a free intro call.

Data and privacy

What data do you collect?

Only what the waitlist form asks for. We do not ask for a child’s date of birth, school name or photo. We never sell data and delete it on request. The Privacy Notice sets out the details.

Who can see my child’s information?

You, your child’s tutor for the subjects they teach, and our team for safeguarding and support. Nothing is shared outside the platform.
